Madhuja Mukherjee

Madhuja Mukherjee, PhD, studied Literature and Films at the University level, and has been trained in music (Sitar), and informally, in Fine Arts. She works as an artist/ filmmaker/ writer, and hopes to extend the boundaries between writing histories of cinema, making films, art-installations and comics. Madhuja has published extensively in scholarly journals, she has authored and edited critical books on film history. Her films, 'Carnival' (2012, Director), and 'Qissa' (2013, Co-writer), have been screened at international festivals, and have received prestigious awards.  She has done a series of (solo) media-installation at renowned art galleries. 'Kangal Maslat’ (2013, Bengali), her first graphic-novel, became a best-seller. Madhuja has developed the alternative art space TENT (theatre for experiments in new technologies), Kolkata, under the ATSA fellowship (2013-2014). In 2014, TENT launched its first ‘Little Cinema International Festival’ for experimental films and new media art. Currently she teaches in the Department of Film Studies, Jadavpur University, Kolkata and is working on her second graphic novel, which is supported by IFA, Bangalore.
